Reports claimed that he had a huge crush on Sonali Bendre and in a talk show, he had clearly stated that he would do anything to propose Sonali and if she rejects, he would kidnap her will that do. Shoaib was a big follower of Sonali and was madly in love with her. He fell in love with the actress so much that he used to keep her photo in his purse. Shoaib had revealed that he had never met Sonali, he said, "I was never his fan. I saw his films once or twice, but I was never a fan of his. I have seen her in films and she is a very beautiful woman. I saw his struggle to fall ill. She showed courage and came out of her struggle as a brave woman."
According to Times Now, he further said, "He fought back and then I became his fan. I am very happy to see a woman so brave and courageous. She showed the way for other women. I was never associated with them. To say that I had his poster in my room was wrong. I only had one poster in my room and that Imran Khan was the only cricketer whom I idolized.”
