Growing up in Mumbai: A struggle to make it big
Neha was born in Mumbai, and grew up in a joint family of singers, musicians, and music teachers. Her sisters Meha and Nakshatra also perform and write songs. She briefly studied at the Mumbai University’s College of Arts and Commerce but later dropped out to pursue singing full-time. Neha started her career at the age of 12 when she won the Sa Re Ga Ma contest on the television channel Zee TV. She was later offered a contract with the Sony BMG record label, when she was 16. Later, she formed a band called ‘Sixth Sense’ with her sister Meha. Neha started her solo journey when she was 19 years old after a family dispute. During this time, she faced a lot of rejection as people in the industry said she was too young to sing.

Neha’s big break came when she was offered a chance to sing for Ankit Tiwari, who was recording a song for the movie Ek Villain. The song “Bheegi Bheegi” was an instant hit, and after that, Neha was asked to sing for almost every Bollywood singer.
